My 2 Cents

With the 2008 presidential elections in full swing, people everywhere are getting involved. From campaign support groups on Facebook to YouTube videos about the candidates, the Internet is controlling the campaign.

As teenagers, we are constantly online, but how often are we taking part in the discussion? Too often, young teens think that if they aren’t able to vote, they can’t make a difference, their voice isn’t heard or their opinions don’t matter. But thanks to a new website called My2CentsforChange.org, the exact opposite is true.

Through My 2 Cents for Change, an online advocacy-based site created specifically to give teens aged 13-17 a voice in the upcoming presidential election, teens of all backgrounds can add their thoughts on the issues they feel most passionate about, whether it’s education, health care, war or genocide. The website shares teens’ “2 cents” with the presidential candidates of their choice, as well as other teens who view the site. We, as teens, are the future leaders of tomorrow—let’s make our 2 cents count!

My 2 Cents for Change is sponsored by YouthNoise, blocked::http://dosomething.org/">DoSomething.org, Generation Engage, Youth Service America, Declare Yourself, 18in08 and Project Vote Smart, in partnership with BBYO, a leading Jewish teen organization committed to promoting discussion among teens of all backgrounds in an effort to empower youth leadership, civic involvement and cross-cultural dialogue.

Teens—get involved today! The reward for giving your 2 cents? You get change back!

Gabbi, this site is perfect for me. First of all, it helps me learn about the actual issues, as well as the candidates, in order to form educated opinions on the political situation. I've never really understood politics, and the issues and campaigns have always been confusing to me. My Two Cents really breaks it all down for me clearly. In the subjects I am educated about I've always been moderate in my thinking, never a strict Republican or Democrat. This is an amazing wevsite and helps me get my voice heard.
