With all the hype about Kanye West’s new album, Graduation, I’ve recently been listening to a lot of his old stuff.

Do you ever feel like you stand out in a crowd? Are you the one to step up and say no? Would you go against your friends if they made a wrong choice?

The morning of October 12, 2007, was the same as every other: I woke up, showered and checked the news before going to school. Today, the news came as a pleasant surprise: Al Gore had won the Nobel Peace Prize. I was thrilled because I strongly believe in finding a solution to the climate crisis. As I began to drive to school (note the irony), I started to think more about it. Al Gore has worked hard to raise awareness about global warming, but I wonder, was the Nobel Peace Prize the right honor?

School is not easy. All of my classes, including three APs, cross country every day after school and numerous extra-curriculars take up a lot of time and give me little time to do homework or “enjoy.” I often question myself and wonder, “Why?” Why am I doing all of this?
