Response to the "Coming Home" article

For some reason, I found this article disturbing. The quote "I made it a priority to get my ID tags changed so that my religion state "No Preference..." really bothered me. If someone is going to be Jew, they have to accept all the responsibilities, risks, and possible problems that can go along with that. Jews who were murdered in the holocuast never got to decide if they wanted to be considered Jewish in order to save their lives; either they were Jewish or weren't.

The War in Iraq

We have a job to do [in Iraq] now that we are there. If we leave now, it would be the biggest disservice to the state we are trying to form there. As we see in the media, Iraq is at a turning point; if we leave now, it will [make a] turn for the worse. If we stay strong, we can successfully help this new government thrive.

Moot Beit Din, Toronto Style

“A Jewish law competition?” was what I repeatedly heard when I told my friends why I was not going to be at school for the next few days. Little did I know, the competition was only three hours out of the entire four-day trip.

My 2 Cents

With the 2008 presidential elections in full swing, people everywhere are getting involved. From campaign support groups on Facebook to YouTube videos about the candidates, the Internet is controlling the campaign.

Terrorism in Jerusalem

I am sitting at a computer in my school library gaping at the news. For the first time in four years, terrorism has hit Jerusalem, and it has hit hard. Last night, a Palestinian gunman entered the library of a rabbinical seminary and killed 8 students. It was the deadliest attack in Israel in two years. In addition to the dead, it has left around 10 wounded, and one boy critically.

Tornadoes in the South

Last Tuesday a devastating tornado hit the Southern states; Arkansas and Tenessee were hit with the most damage, with 13 and 31 people killed, consecutively. The tornadoes proved to be irregular in that they were "long-track" tornadoes, meaning they stayed on the ground for long periods of time, causing even more destruction. Homes, trailer parks, and even universities were torn apart and many lost family members due to the storms.

Ms. at its finest.

At first when I read about the Ms. magazine scandal, I rolled my eyes. I rolled my eyes because I believed this to be another anti-Israel forward that my mother received and decided to spread. I rolled my eyes because I believed it was overly dramatized by people looking for controversy.  I rolled my eyes due to utter lack of interest in a situation I believed to be fruitless.  I did not roll my eyes because this is another one of the repeated attacks against Israel through the media.

Five Things You Should Have Done Before Christmas

I don't know about the rest of you, but in my town, NOTHING is open on Christmas. Well, of course we have the stereotypical movie theatres, but not even the Chinese food restaurants are open! When there's nothing to do for almost a full day and a half, you have to cover all your bases ahead of time. Some of these tasks are necessary; others are purely enjoyment-related.
