Each month, Adam brings you hot and current news on our past cover girls/guys, as well as the stars we feature in our PopLife interviews. Since JVibe gets the first scoop on young stars like our Jan/Feb cover guy Joe Trohman from Fall Out Boy and March/April's Sara Paxton, we want to keep you updated on their success! Then, when they become as huge as past cover-celebs like Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (don't worry, we've got them covered, too), you can say you saw it back in the day when JVibe got the story. In this corner of our Pop Culture section, Adam will always be here with Adam's Vibe on the Jews you love most. (And if you've missed seeing them in print, subscribe now to JVibe magazine.)
Natalie Portman’s (Love/Sex, June/July 2005) newest movie, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, was released in theaters on November 16. Portman plays Molly Mahoney, an awkward and insecure manager of Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, the “strangest, most fantastic, most wonderful toy store in the world.” But when Mr. Magorium (played by Dustin Hoffman), the 243-year-old eccentric who owns the store, bequeaths the store to her, a dark and ominous change begins to take over the once-remarkable Emporium. The movie also co-stars Jason Bateman. Portman was spotted on MTV’s Total Request Live in mid-November promoting the movie. Check out the official trailer and website for the movie at www.magorium.com.
Outside of the movie industry, Portman has had a busy month, as she was spotted in November at the Harvard Business School, invited by the Social Enterprise Club to discuss micro-financing in underdeveloped countries. A Harvard graduate with a degree in psychology, Portman is the International Ambassador of Hope for FINCA, an entity that provides loans to people in extreme poverty so they can start businesses. Portman was also recently featured in an Animal Planet documentary called Saving a Species, where she and animal expert Jack Hanna spent time in a Rwandan rainforest looking for a glimpse of the endangered mountain gorilla, of which there are only a few hundred left in the wild. Finally, in a new edition of Parade magazine, Portman discusses her life and career in a self-written article entitled, “What I Have Learned So Far.” Read about her thoughts at www.parade.com/articles/editions/2007/edition_10-28-2007/Natalie_Portman. Portman is also slated to appear on the cover of the Jan/Feb ’08 issue of JVibe. Subscribe now.
