Each month, Adam brings you hot and current news on our past cover girls/guys, as well as the stars we feature in our PopLife interviews. Since JVibe gets the first scoop on young stars like our Jan/Feb cover guy Joe Trohman from Fall Out Boy and March/April's Sara Paxton, we want to keep you updated on their success! Then, when they become as huge as past cover-celebs like Natalie Portman and Zach Braff (don't worry, we've got them covered, too), you can say you saw it back in the day when JVibe got the story. In this corner of our Pop Culture section, Adam will always be here with Adam's Vibe on the Jews you love most. (And if you've missed seeing them in print, subscribe now to JVibe magazine.)

Bobby and Peter Farrelly have their eyes on Sacha Baron Cohen (Misfit Issue, February/March 2005) for their next movie, called Hall Pass, which is set to begin shooting in Boston this fall. The new comedy revolves around two married men whose wives give them a weeklong “break” from marriage, sort of like a modern-day The Seven Year Itch, the 1955 Billy Wilder film in which a faithful husband is tempted by a beautiful neighbor (Marilyn Monroe). For more info on Sacha’s whereabouts in the movie world, check this out.

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is sending Red Sox players specialty mini-Fenway Park license plates that will correspond with the numbers on the players’ jerseys. The commonwealth is issuing the plates to raise money for a miniature Fenway stadium that the city is planning to build in Quincy, Mass. Red Sox first-baseman Kevin Youkilis (Take Action, September/October 2005) has already offered up his No. 20 plate to raise money for his charity, Hits for Kids. Entering its third week in release, Natalie Portman’s (Love/Sex, June/July 2005 and Power of Speech, January/February 2008) new movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, has grossed just over $22 million at the box office, a decent showing considering its nearly $40 million budget and tepid-to-average reviews from most critics. Check out the movie’s official website here.

In other Portman news, Nat formed her own production company after growing tired of waiting around for movie offers to land in her mailbox. She said she found the process frustrating and that scripts being offered to her were inconsistent, so she decided to take her career into her own hands and form Handsome Charlie Films. “It is proactive. It gives you more control over creating things, as opposed to having to get hired every single time,” she has said. “After you’ve worked for so long, it’s kind of annoying to have to be dependent in that way.” Natalie added: “I’ve been working 15 years and I know some years I get everything first and some years I read only uninteresting parts. I didn’t want to be at the mercy of whoever is making those decisions. Having your own company is a nice way to concentrate your ideas and make the kinds of movies you want to see.”

Mila Kunis’ (Personal Satisfaction, November/December 2005) new movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, is set to be released in theaters on April 18. The movie stars Jason Segel (best known as “Marshall” from How I Met Your Mother) as Peter, the loyal and adoring boyfriend of Sarah (Kristen Bell), who has his heart ripped from his chest when she unceremoniously dumps him for a trendy rock star. After wallowing in his own misery, Peter decides to take a trip to Hawaii where he finds Sarah and her boy toy are staying at the same hotel. But things aren’t so bad once he starts dating one of the resort’s employees, a woman played by Kunis. Check out the trailer for the movie and the official website here.

Kali’s Kibbitzing

Associate Editor Kali D. Foxman brings you her favorite “news” of the month.

He’s just so into you
How much would you spend to win a date with Scarlett Johansson? One lucky (and much poorer) eBay bidder just spent $40,100 to accompany Scarlett to the premiere of her next film, He’s Just Not That Into You. And the cash? It all goes to Scarlett’s charity of choice, Oxfam International, which fights poverty.

And we love her
Speaking of Scarlett, not only is she launching a singing career later this year, but she’s also directing her first film—one of the short films in New York, I Love You, based on 2006’s Paris, Je T’aime. Best buddy Natalie Portman is one of the actors in the film, but we don’t know yet in which short she appears.

Big break…up?
While we’re on the subject of New York, I Love You, we did learn that Natalie’s co-star was just forced to walk away from his big break because of a religious row. Hasidic Jew Abe Karpen was cast alongside Nat in one of the shorts, currently being filmed in Manhattan. The pair was snapped together on set last week, prompting uproar from Karpen’s strict religious community in the city’s Brooklyn borough. The married father of three was warned his kids would be kicked out of their religious school if he didn’t quit the film.

Living legend
After 15 years, Jewish singer Leonard Cohen is ready to get back to business—the touring business, that is. The important and influential musician (and JVibe Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award nominee) kicks off his tour in June. Over his decades in music, he’s been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was just recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, his tour is not yet scheduled to bring him stateside.

On the Isle of Man
High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron recently hired a personal bodyguard after being mobbed by teenagers on the Isle of Man (in the British Isles) while filming Me and Orson Welles. His new security detail is with him 24/7, though he’s still been gracious enough to sign autographs and pose for photos—as long as you give him a little space.

Searching for…Sanjaya?
Former American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar was recently seen doing the hora—oh, and singing—at one Long Islander’s bat mitzvah. He and his signature hair were the life of the party, which also doubled as a benefit for nonprofit group Realizing the Dream.
